Supporting Rural & Remote Students, Schools & Communities In Fiji One Biodegradable Cup At A Time
Did you know rural and remote children as young as five years old leave home to attend the district boarding school to access kindergarten in Fiji? Even as district boarding schools strive to graduate all students, the numbers significantly decline as the barriers to accessing secondary education are too great. Parents in these communities often describe access to education as a sacrifice.
Through partnership with PortionPak, biodegradable paper cup sales are helping keep the planet clean and supporting essential community-based needs in Fiji. Each cup sold helps to better resource remote primary and secondary schools in Fiji, where our partner communities live. Through our network of women leaders, they decide which schools they want to support, and which projects are most meaningful for their children and teachers.
Some examples of projects include:
- • Expanding or establishing their local school farm to provide fresh food for boarding students;
- • Clean bedding and mosquito nets for boarding students;
- • Small-scale infrastructure upgrades to improve hygiene; and
- • Purchasing of learning support materials for students.
We are grateful to PortionPak and to the resort you are staying at in Fiji, for supporting this effort to empower future generations of Fijians!
