DIY your very own creations with 100% natural "vau" hibiscus fiber bundle! Each piece is processed by sea and sun.
Vau fibers are made from the wild Hibiscus plant (Hibiscus tilaceus), a Polynesian introduced flowering plant that thrives in tropical coastal environments. Tree branches are cut, the outer bark removed, and the inner fibers stripped. A common step in preparation is to tie the fibers to a branch and let them soak in the ocean, which naturally bleaches them and removes unwanted bugs. After a good soak, the fibers are dried.
Many applications, such as salusalu (lei), costume making, and handicrafts.
Unrolled, each bundle measures approximately 4 feet long and weighs on average 70-80 grams. Due to the nature of natural materials, there may be variations in color and texture.
A minimum purchase of three bundles is required for Australia-based customers. We apologize that we are unable to offer this product to New Zealand-based customers at this time.
